Laura Kavanagh set up Queen of Hearts events in Dublin for gay women, but didn’t expect to find her own tribe in the process

I decided to set up Queen of Hearts because a lot of my single friends were complaining about online dating, as they had experienced being ghosted or catfished. This was back in October 2023. I was working from home and had two young kids, and definitely had suburban loneliness.
I hadn’t put together an event before, but I felt speed dating events were something I could create from scratch using my skillset, as I had a background in communications, front-of-house experience and marketing experience in a graphic design company.
