RNLI volunteers have recovered a body from the water following a multi-agency response off the Wexford coast this (Saturday) afternoon.
The lifeboat was visible heading out into Wexford Harbour shortly after 2pm as locals enjoyed the sunshine on Wexford quay. They were quickly joined by the Coast Guard Rescue 117 helicopter, which hovered off the coast, however, it is reported that the chopper was in the area on a training exercise and played no major part in the recovery effort.
Early reports suggest that the RNLI crew recovered a body from the water shortly before 3pm just outside Wexford Harbour. They quickly returned to base.

The body is believed to be that of a male and it’s been suggested that it may have been in the water for some time.
An Garda Síochána have stated that they are not in the position to confirm any details at this early stage, as they work to identify the remains as quickly as possible.
More to follow.
