Vanessa Marcil is owning the “toxic” label that her ex-husband, Brian Austin Green, bestowed upon her during his podcast.
Days after Green, 50, said his relationship with Marcil, 56, was “very toxic,” the actress has updated her Instagram bio to include “toxic single mom.” She also shared a screenshot to her story to make sure her followers saw.
“Relationships have been interesting for me,” Green shared on the Monday, May 5, episode of “Old-ish.” “I had some major missteps … The relationship that I had with Vanessa was very toxic in that way. It wasn’t a loving, caring relationship.”
He expanded, describing the most important relationships he’s had in his life.
“With my mom, everything was about me,” he said. “And with Vanessa, it wasn’t that at all. … After two years, you’re kind of looking at yourself in the mirror, asking, ‘Who am I at this point? There’s not one piece of me that’s left. My relationship with everyone around me has changed.’ That relationship ended up not working out.”

Marcil and Green were together from 1999 to 2003, welcoming son Kassius in 2002 and engaging in a lengthy custody battle after their split.
Green began dating Megan Fox in 2004 and the two were married from 2010 to 2021. They share sons Noah, 12, Bodhi, 11, and Journey, 8. He is now engaged to Dancing With the Stars alum Sharna Burgess, and the two share 2-year-old son, Zane.
“Megan was a breath of fresh air coming out of what felt like Vietnam,” Green added.
Marcil has used more than her Instagram bio to throw shade at her ex. She has been sharing apparent text messages between them on social media, and fans were quick to notice that Green is listed in her phone as “Kassius’ dad.”
One exchange that she shared began with her sending a photo of Kassius and Green allegedly asking what it was from.
“Yesterday was his graduation,” Marcil wrote.
“You did a really great job. He’s an amazing person,” Green replied.
The message ends with Marcil writing, “Thank you.”
Though Marcil and Green don’t have a relationship beyond coparenting, they have both spoken glowingly about being Kassius’ parents.
“He was by far the first time in my life where I stepped outside of myself,” Green shared on his podcast. “My insecurities and my things didn’t carry the same weight that they did before because he was just my world. I wanted him with me every second of every day. We had our routines. We had our things.”
