Hannah Brown may have opened up her life to the public eye on reality TV, but she’s also been suffering from her own private health battles.
“I still haven’t quite gotten to this because I’m not at a place where I’m ready to have children and I didn’t want to have another thing to add stress, but like, I have a double uterus and I had never been told that until this,” Brown, 30, said on the Tuesday, May 6, episode of Maria Menounos’ “Heal Squad” podcast while discussing her diagnosis with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS).
Brown explained that she has yet to undergo the “exploratory surgery” to figure out more about her double uterus diagnosis.
“There’s some risk in whatever may be there when I’m ready to have children. It looks like they’re attached in some way, it’s just, like, almost split,” she said. “She’s going to have to figure out, ‘Is one bigger than the other? Can it, like, hold a baby? Which one is better?’ It’s a whole thing. There’s been so much going on. I was like, ‘I need to put that on a shelf. I don’t need to be stressing about that right now.’”
While recalling her conversation with a doctor a few years ago, Brown said she was told she didn’t “need to take too extreme of precautions” if she was planning to have kids “somewhat soon.” Brown noted that her doctor advised her to have things “planned out,” including freezing her eggs, by age 30.
“I’m like, ‘OK, I’m getting married this year. I will get right on that right after,’” she said. “It can definitely complicate things because can the size of the uterus hold a baby? Is one better than the other? But there have been cases of people having double uteruses and having babies and being perfectly fine. But it was definitely a shock.”
Brown noted that PCOS makes people have “more likeliness to have infertility troubles,” adding that a double uterus is “not a good thing to have” — but she’s empowered by the knowledge.
“To have the knowledge of, like, ‘Hey, this is something that you’re going to want to take care of when you’re ready for that time and to not be surprised by it,’ was really helpful,” she said. “And it took multiple doctors to even get to that.”
Brown, who is engaged to Adam Woolard, candidly shared that she goes “back and forth” about whether she wants to be a mom one day.
“I definitely think I would love to have a child. I don’t want to miss out on that experience,” she said. “But I haven’t been quite ready yet, which I think makes sense. I want to get married first. I want to be able to do that. But, it’s not like, I’ve never been to just like, just waiting, waiting, waiting for that to happen, But I do think I’m going to want to have that experience when it’s time.”
