Elton John’s husband, David Furnish, is weighing in on Elizabeth Hurley and Billy Ray Cyrus’ whirlwind romance.
“She’s very happy and I wish her all the best,” Furnish, 62, told Hello! Magazine in an interview published on Thursday, May 1. “Obviously, that little side of me is a little protective … because your best girlfriends, when you really love them … you just want to make sure they’re OK.”
Furnish praised Hurley, 59, as a “really smart and really capable” woman. He also noted that she’s “a really good judge of character.”
Hurley has been best friends with Furnish for many years. She even made him and John, 78, the godparents to her son, Damian Hurley. (The actress shares her only child with her late ex Steve Bing.)
“I’m excited for her and I’m excited to see where it goes,” Furnish added of Hurley and Cyrus’ relationship. “We all need love, right?”
Cyrus, 63, shocked the world on April 20 when confirming his relationship with Hurley via Instagram. The musician kissed the actress on the cheek in the sweet snap.

The couple “are enjoying life together and wanted to make it public,” a source told Us Weekly late last month. “They have nothing to hide.”
The insider added, “They’ve been friends for years, but it turned romantic recently. Things are going well.”
Cyrus also spoke candidly about their relationship during an April 24 appearance on Apple Music Country’s The Ty Bentli Show.
“She’s a great human being. If all we ever were [was] the friends that we are … I would take that,” he said at the time. “She’s so impressively brilliant.”
Cyrus briefly detailed how they went from friends to something more.
“The oddest part was first how much we laughed,” he said. “Second, I figured we were so different, but in some very strange way, we had way more in common than we had different.”

Hurley met Cyrus on the set of the 2022 holiday film Christmas in Paradise. A second source confirmed to Us that they have been dating for about four months.
“Liz’s friends have known about it for a while. It’s not a new thing,” a third insider shared. “She had sworn them to secrecy, and they didn’t tell anyone outside her tight circle.”
Cyrus’ relationship with Hurley came following his August 2024 divorce from Firerose. He was previously married to Tish Cyrus, with whom he shares kids Brandi, 37, Trace, 36, Miley, 32, Braison, 30, and 25-year-old Noah. They divorced in 2022 after 28 years of marriage. Cyrus is also the father to Christopher Cody, 33, with ex-girlfriend Kristen Luckey.
