Nick Viall and Bill Belichick are both in age-gap relationships, but according to the former Bachelor, they couldn’t be more different.
“I think what I’m so fascinated by is that, like, I feel like I’m getting a front-row seat into what my nightmare version of dating Natalie [Joy] would have been when we started dating with [our] little bit of a gap,” Viall, 44, said on the Thursday, May 1, episode of his “The Viall Files” podcast. “Compared to that, it’s like the tiniest sliver of a gap.”
Viall and Joy, 26, began dating in 2019 after she slid into his social media DMs. The pair — who are 18 years apart in age — wed in April 2024, months after welcoming daughter River Rose.
Belichick and girlfriend Jordon Hudson, meanwhile, have been together since 2021 after meeting on an airplane. The couple have a 49-year age gap and often shut down criticism of their romance.
“Natalie [could have] thought, maybe, I was a monster and you don’t really know,” Viall speculated of his now-wife’s initial perspective on their connection. “In my world, it’s just like, ‘She’s going to steal everything I have and she’s going to take over my life, and before I know it, I’m going to wake up and she’s going to be running everything and I’m not going to know what’s going on.’”
The Super Bowl-winning football coach, 73, recently appeared on CBS Sunday Mornings, where Hudson, 24, interjected to shut down a question about their romance.
“We’re not talking about that,” she said when Belichick was asked about how they met.
“I agreed to speak with CBS Sunday Morning to promote my new book, The Art of Winning – Lessons from My Life in Football,” Belichick said in a statement on Wednesday, April 30. “Prior to this interview, I clearly communicated with my publicist at Simon & Schuster that any promotional interviews I participated in would agree to focus solely on the contents of the book. Unfortunately, that expectation was not honored during the interview. I was surprised when unrelated topics were introduced, and I repeatedly expressed to the reporter, Tony Dokoupil, and the producers that I preferred to keep the conversation centered on the book.”
According to Belichick, the interview veered from the approved topics, which is when Hudson jumped in to “help refocus the discussion.”
“She was not deflecting any specific question or topic but simply doing her job to ensure the interview stayed on track,” he said. “Some of the clips make it appear as though we were avoiding the question of how we met, but we have been open about the fact that Jordon and I met on a flight to Palm Beach in 2021. Instead, it presents selectively edited clips and stills from just a few minutes of the interview to suggest a false narrative — that Jordon was attempting to control the conversation — which is simply not true.”
CBS, meanwhile, denied claims that there were no “preconditions or limitations” going into the sit-down. “When we agreed to speak with Mr. Belichick, it was for a wide-ranging interview,” a spokesperson for CBS News said. “There were no preconditions or limitations to this conversation. This was confirmed repeatedly with his publisher before the interview took place and after it was completed.”
While discussing the interview on his podcast, Viall wondered about Hudson’s involvement in the first place.
“His former players and people defending him are basically saying, ‘Maybe it’s kind of weird, but at the same time, she’s playing the role of his publicist,’” Viall said. “It seems like she is, but why is your girlfriend [doing that]? I couldn’t imagine meeting Natalie two months in and being like, ‘Listen, I have this spot open.’”
After Viall and his podcast cohosts wondered whether Hudson actually loved him, the Special Forces alum quipped, “I don’t think he cares. He’s the most famous for not caring.”
Viall continued, “Hell, just for our baby little gap, we get s*** and it’s, like, if you’re aware the internet focuses on the negatives, why are you obsessed with demanding that your girlfriend goes wherever you go and follow you like a shadow and start working for you?”
