Kerry Washington Goes Sheer in Dior Dress for Brooklyn Artists Ball

Kerry Washington put her own spin on Gothic romance with her look at the Brooklyn Artists Ball on Tuesday. The event, made possible by Dior and held at the Brooklyn Museum, featured “Atlanta” actress Zazie Beetz, “Stranger Things” star Caleb McLaughlin and more.

For the special occasion, Washington opted for a look from Dior’s 2025 cruise collection. The ornate dress married sheer dressing with a romantic sensibility, featuring a flowing skirt and sleeveless bodice with intricate mesh work.

The bodice of the dress included floral inspiration, with small flowers designed into the fabric of the sheer mesh dress. Washington paired the dress with a Dior belt at her waist for a defined silhouette and accessorized with bold gold Dior necklaces and shoes from the French luxury fashion house.

Washington’s hair was styled in a low bun with wisps of hair to frame her face courtesy of stylist Takisha Sturdivant-Drew. Her makeup included smokey eyes and a glossy lip by artist Billie Gene, using Dior Beauty products. The “Shadow Force” star’s look was curated by stylists Rob Zangardi and Mariel Haenn, who’ve also collaborated with Jennifer Lopez, among others.

Washington’s Brooklyn Artists Ball look made its runway debut back in June 2024. The collection, curated by creative director Maria Grazia Chiuri, was loosely inspired by Clare Hunter, the textile expert and author of “Embroidering Her Truth: Mary Queen of Scots and the Language of Power.” 

“Chiuri channeled her own fascination into a handsome, wearable collection that was made from hard and soft elements, fit for warriors and regal ladies alike. Minidresses had stiff sculptural skirts nodding to suits of armor, while sparkling knits dotted with sparkles resembled chain mail. The Elizabethan puff sleeves on sheer tops were the ultimate in power shoulders,” Samantha Conti wrote in WWD’s review of the collection.

“Footwear was ferocious, fit for battle — or for fly fishing. Models in the most delicate of creamy lace dresses walked in black stompy boots, some with lots of hardware, unzipped wellies, or tall waders with saucy garter strap details.”
