The New York Times headline in August 2018 summed it up: ‘In Ireland, Pope Francis Finds a Country Transformed and a Church in Tatters.’
While Francis’ four-country trip to Indonesia, East Timor, Papua New Guinea and Singapore last September was physically much more strenuous for the 87-year-old, his two-day visit to Ireland in 2018 was one of his most challenging trips, emotionally and spiritually.
