A year out from the release of Marvel’s “Avengers: Doomsday,” Wyatt Russell is revealing just how tight-lipped the cast is asked to remain about the film’s big secrets.
“Media training for ‘Doomsday’ is they just hold a knife to your neck and said, ‘You say anything, and it’s over,’” Russell told ComicBook. Ahead of the release of “Doomsday,” Marvel fans can check out Russell’s turn as John Walker in “Thunderbolts,” which releases theatrically May 2.
David Harbour, who plays the Red Guardian in “Thunderbolts,” has had his share of close calls as well. “It’s the most terrifying stunt imaginable, doing a bunch of interviews where they go, ‘So we hear you’re in ‘Doomsday?’” Harbour said.
While recent Marvel films like “Captain America: Brave New World” and “The Marvels” significantly underperformed both critically and financially, the first reactions for “Thunderbolts” have been quite positive. First reactions coined the superhero tentpole a “bold dive into trauma, healing and redemption” with Florence Pugh, who made her Marvel debut in “Black Widow,” getting a share of praise for her lead performance.
In the aftermath of underwhelming Marvel films, the marketing campaign for “Thunderbolts” has focused on the film’s cast and crew who previously worked on A24 films, including “Beef” director and writers Jake Schreier, Lee Sung Jin and Joanna Calo. The trailer also highlighted Pugh’s leading performance in Ari Aster’s “Midsommar.”
Upcoming Marvel releases include “The Fantastic Four: First Steps” in July, with “Avengers” sequels “Doomsday” and “Secret Wars” set to release on May 1, 2026 and May 7, 2027, respectively.
