Angelina Jolie paid a visit to her new artistic hub Atelier Jolie in New York City on Thursday wearing an all-black ensemble that showcased the actress’ interpretation of the sheer dressing trend.
Jolie had on a lingerie-inspired dress featuring a lacy bust beneath a sheer high-neck layer with vertical ruching. A midi-length sheer skirt fell past a thigh-length hemline with lacy trim, further emphasizing the negligee aesthetic of her ensemble.
She paired the dress with a black overcoat and a pair of classic black pointed-toe pumps with a kitten heel. Meanwhile, yellow-tinted aviator sunglasses brought a hint of color to her look, in addition to her long blonde hair.

While trending still a red carpet trend, sheer dressing is a pertinent topic currently as the Cannes Film Festival recently announced a ban on nudity on the red carpet, in addition to excessively voluminous outfits. The naked dress is a trend that’s been displayed at Cannes by influential names in fashion like Bella Hadid and Kendall Jenner. However, some stars have opted for more minimalist displays of sheer material, similar to Jolie’s ensemble.

The actress herself is headed to the Croisette soon — WWD announced that she was named this year’s Godmother of the Trophée Chopard Award, a recognition for emerging actors, which will go to Marie Colomb and Finn Bennett. Jolie’s festival looks within the last year have included a backless satin dress from Brunello Cucinelli at the Santa Barbara International Film Festival and a vintage Madame Grès gown at the New York Film Festival, among other looks displayed while she promoted the film “Maria.”
