Sarah Michelle Gellar is officially passing the stake to Ryan Kiera Armstrong as the new vampire slayer for the upcoming Buffy the Vampire Slayer reboot.
“How do you feel about helping save the world? Will you be my chosen one?” Gellar asked Armstrong in a video shared via Instagram on Thursday, May 15, revealing that the actress earned the role on the sequel, which will air on Hulu.
Armstrong started to cry after realizing she’d gotten the gig alongside Gellar, who will return as Buffy Summers, a character she originally played on The WB series from 1997 to 2003. “This is so exciting, oh my God,” Armstrong said through tears.
“From the moment I saw Ryan’s audition, I knew there was only one girl that I wanted by my side,” Gellar wrote alongside the video. “To have that kind of emotional intelligence, and talent, at such a young age is truly a gift. The bonus is that her smile lights up even the darkest room.”
Us Weekly confirmed in February that Gellar will be an executive producer on the new project and have an acting role. Armstrong’s version is described as the “next chapter in the Buffyverse,” per the network.
