Jackie Healy-Rae and his partner have sought permission to build the house at a site in Kilgarvan
The proposed house would be built on farmland owned by Cllr Healy-Rae’s father, Minister of State at the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine, Michael Healy-Rae.
The Castleisland-Corca Dhuibhne representative and his partner Maria Murnaghan have submitted a planning application to Kerry County Council to build a large, two-storey five-bedroom house and a garage at Gortnaboul, Kilagarvan.
In addition to his council work, Cllr Healy-Rae was appointed as ministerial adviser to his father earlier this year. Salaries for advisers to junior ministers typically range from €75,000 to €104,000.
Architectural drawings for the proposed development show Cllr Healy Rae and Ms Murnaghan’s new home will include a large master bedroom with an ensuite and a walk-in wardrobe equipped with a laundry chute on the 124.4sqm first floor.
The same floor will also include another three bedrooms, a study, store, bathroom and landing.
The 129.6sqm ground floor will include a kitchen equipped with an island, booth seating and a table, and a dining area as well as a living room and a lounge which each have a fireplace.
The floor will also include an entrance hall, a utility room with laundry chute and another bedroom. A bathroom will connect to the bedroom and the utility room.
The proposed garage would have an area of 44.25sqm and contain enough room to park two cars.
The plans for the new home are included as part of planning documents submitted to the local authority that show Minister Healy-Rae has consented to Cllr Healy-Rae and his partner to apply for planning permission on his lands.
In a cover letter attached to the planning application, Cllr Healy-Rae states that he has “grown up, lived, gone to school, and worked in Kilgarvan my whole life, my family home is directly across the road from the proposed development site and my sister is in close proximity in the same family farmland”.
“Both my partner and I wish to live and construct our future family home on the proposed lands to remain in Kilgarvan in the community I was raised in, played sport in my entire life with the local GAA club of which I am still an active member today,” the letter reads.
“I also am a member of the pastoral community in Kilagarvan which is very important to me, I have received all my sacraments in my local church and we wish to have our future family grow up in Kilgarvan parish.
“I seek approval from Kerry County Council to allow us to develop our family home on these farmlands and hope you will look favourably upon our application.”
The planning application was received by Kerry County Council on Wednesday, May 7.
It is at the pre-validation phase according to the local authority’s planning database on Tuesday, May 13.
