Former NBA star Blake Griffin’s playing days might be behind him, but that doesn’t mean he isn’t as busy as ever.
As Us Weekly exclusively revealed in January, Griffin, 36, is engaged to swimwear designer Francesca Aiello. The six-time NBA All-Star is also the father of son, Ford, 11, and daughter Finley, 8, whom he shares with his ex Brynn Cameron.
With the grind of his own basketball life in the rearview mirror, Griffin now finds himself in a new role: sports dad.
“I’m basically now just a chauffeur,” Griffin told Us at the Amazon Upfronts in New York City on Monday, May 12. “We just go all over the town on the weekends watching games. But it’s great. I get more nervous for their games than I did for mine.”
Griffin said he helps “coach a little bit of basketball” but stays out of getting involved in his kids’ other sports.
“We do try to concentrate on fundamentals,” Griffin said of his coaching style. “I think that’s sort of lacking sometimes in youth sports. Also just making sure that they know this isn’t life or death. We’re here to have fun and we’re here to learn how to be good teammates and learn these valuable lessons that sports teaches us.”
Griffin said another perk of retirement has been the relief it’s been on his body.
“Not hurting all the time, getting out of bed and not being in pain,” he explained. “It’s been nice to have more time for my kids and my family.”

As for his pending nuptials, Griffin said he and fiancée Aiello have “a long runway” before they arrive at their big day.
“It’s been pretty chill, but I’m sure it will ramp up or something,” Griffin added.
In addition to wedding planning, Griffin is dipping his toes back into the basketball waters this fall with his new job as a studio analyst on Prime Video’s NBA coverage.
Griffin will join reporter Taylor Rooks and former Dallas Mavericks star Dirk Nowitzki when the streamer kicks off his coverage of the league next season.
“The people on our desk are people I’ve been watching and known for a long time,” Griffin told Us. “I’m just excited to be with them and learn from them. Taylor is a true pro, so her herding us and keeping us in line will be great.”
Griffin added, “I think in sports, it’s always nice to have fresh voices, especially guys who were on NBA teams recently. Just to give a different perspective because the game changes so much.”
