Query: Dear Mary Frances, I’m trying to untangle a legal mess around a small farm that was left to my father. We want to sell the farm but the tenant, who hasn’t paid rent in the past few years, is now trying to claim an extension to his lease.
The farm was left to my father following a family dispute in the 1990s, after his brother died. Although my father and mother lived abroad, they maintained ownership and rented it out over the years.
