Temperatures are set to soar to 24C today, marking the hottest day of the week.

But temperatures will remain in the high teens and low twenties for the next week to 10 days, with only-slightly cooler temperatures on the east coast.

Speaking on RTÉ Radio One’s Claire Byrne show, Deputy Head of Forecasting Elizabeth Coleman said they are now appealing to people to conserve their water.

“It is above average [temperatures] for the beginning of May, it depends on how you look at the temperatures,” Ms Coleman said.

“We’ll be looking at the temperatures at the end of the month to see if we have had any records for May.

“I’d ask people to conserve their water, we don’t expect rain anytime soon.”

She continued; “It will remain settled with those high temperatures right into next week. We are set for a good seven to 10 days of it.

“We are also asking people to think about their safety in the water and their safety in the sun, they are the two key points for people.”

7 Day Weather Forecast: 12th May – 18th May

Tonight, it will be clear and dry for most areas but heavy showers will continue in parts of the south and west early on, with a few thunderstorms possible.

They will clear by midnight with largely clear skies developing and lowest temperatures will be between 7 to 11C.

Tomorrow will be another sunny day for most, but showers will develop in parts of Munster and south Connacht throughout the afternoon and evening.

Some of these will be heavy with a chance of thunderstorms, forecasters say.

And it will be another warm day, with highest temperatures of between 16C and 23C.

Thursday is set to be warm and sunny, with sunshine turning a little hazy at times. Highest temperatures will be between 18 to 22C, but it will be slightly cooler near eastern coasts.

And the good news continues into the weekend.

Friday will be another dry and largely sunny day, with highest temperatures of 17 to 21C but once again, it will be marginally cooler in the east.

Temperatures are set to hit 22C or 23C, with coolest conditions again in eastern coastal counties due to easterly breezes.

Forecasters say current indications suggest that it will stay settled and warm for the early days of next week with temperatures in the high teens or low twenties.
