The grim dig, delving deeper and deeper into the ground under the stairs, came to a halt at around 64cm beneath the sitting room floor. A flash of black plastic, exposed as the builder shovelled his way down, prompted Detective Garda Brian Barry to call stop.
“I knew this was very suspicious,” Detective Garda Barry told the court.
