The Real Housewives of New York City alum Sonja Morgan reportedly refused to pay a hefty check while out to eat at a Manhattan restaurant Tucci.
“She was absolutely hysterical and refused to pay,” a source told Page Six about the incident, which occured on Saturday, May 10. “It was like she was filming a ‘Housewives’ episode, shouting, ‘I’m a celebrity!”
The outlet reported that Morgan, 61 — who booked a table of three but allegedly arrived with five people — called Tucci owner Max Tucci after being handed her bill and asking for it to be covered.
“She was like, ‘I don’t pay; people pay me [to go to their restaurants],’” the insider told Page Six. “She was absolutely entitled and caused a scene about not paying.”
Morgan reportedly paid the bill, including a tip, by Monday, May 12. Page Six reported that the Bravo personality had been given free meals by the restaurant in the past, assuming she would not have to pay for the food while eating on Saturday.
Morgan told the outlet that “there was a clear miscommunication,” explaining she was under the impression she was dining “in exchange for a promotional post.” She added, “I made that known to staff.”
Morgan is allegedly not welcome at the Noho restaurant for another meal. “It’s not about me. Don’t do that to my staff,” Tucci told Page Six. “The cost of everything is so expensive right now [for restaurants], and she’s just taking advantage. … There was no arrangement for her to have a comped dinner. She just wanted free food and service.”
Us Weekly reached out to Morgan for comment.
Morgan rose to reality TV fame when she joined RHONY for season 3 in 2010, remaining as a cast member for 11 seasons until 2021. After leaving the show, Morgan toured regionally for her improv show titled Sonja in Your City. She returned to Bravo with RHONY costar Luann de Lesseps on Luann & Sonja: Welcome to Crappie Lake, which aired in 2023. Sonja also starred on season 4 of The Real Housewives Ultimate Girls Trip in 2023.
While appearing on Watch What Happens Live in April, Sonja gave an update on her friendship with de Lesseps after relocating from her New York City townhouse to West Palm Beach, Florida.
“Have you seen Countess Luann lately?” host Andy Cohen asked Morgan, to which she replied, “I have — quite a bit. We’re cooking some things together.”
