Amid growing speculation that girlfriend Jordon Hudson was pulling the strings for boyfriend Bill Belichick behind-the-scenes, Belichick did his best to calm the seas.
During a Tuesday, May 13 interview on ESPN’s SportsCenter with Christine Williamson, Belichick, 73, who was named head football coach at the University of North Carolina in December 2024, described his relationship with Hudson, 23, as “really off to the side.”
“It’s a personal relationship and she doesn’t have anything to do with UNC football,” said Belichick. “I’m excited to be back in the coaches’ meetings and getting ready for June and then August when we get to training camp. June will be a big recruiting month for us and then August, we’ll start getting ready for the season.”
When Belichick was asked if he had discussed his much-talked-about relationship with his players, he said he hasn’t shied away from it.
“Yeah, I talk to the players when we meet with them when they come in to visit and so forth, sure,” Belichick explained. The coach described those meetings as “great.”
Theories about Hudson’s role in Belichick’s professional life went into overdrive last week when journalist Pablo Torre reported she was “no longer allowed in the football building, she is not allowed on the football field.”
On the Friday, May 9 episode of the “Pablo Torre Finds Out” podcast, Torre alleged there was a meeting held recently with influential individuals affiliated with the university to make a ruling about Hudson’s fate.
“I don’t think you’ll be hearing much from Jordon moving forward,” a source at the school reportedly told Torre.
After the release of the podcast episode, the University of North Carolina pushed back against Torre’s report.
“While Jordon Hudson is not an employee at the University or Carolina Athletics, she is welcome to the Carolina Football facilities,” Carolina Athletics said in a statement to Us Weekly on May 9. “Jordon will continue to manage all activities related to Coach Belichick’s personal brand outside of his responsibilities for Carolina Football and the University.”
Torre later defended his reporting via X, saying it “came from the highest levels of the football program.”
Belichick’s family has also allegedly been concerned about Hudson’s growing influence in the life of the former New England Patriots head coach.
Torre reported on his podcast that the Belichicks are “extraordinarily concerned” about the couple’s relationship.
Torre said he spoke to a “Belichick family source” who said there is allegedly “deep worry for how detrimental Jordon can be for not just North Carolina but Bill’s legacy, reputation — everything he has built and worked for over decades.”
The Belichick family has reportedly started “digging into” Hudson’s past on their own.
Belichick shares his daughter, Amanda, and his sons, Brian and Steve, with his ex wife, Debby Clarke. Bill and Clarke were married from 1977 to 2006.
