Rory McIlroy and his wife, Erica Stoll, are officially moving overseas after a year of dramatic highs and lows for the couple.
McIlroy, 36, told The Telegraph that he, Stoll and their 4-year-old daughter, Poppy, will move into their recently-built mansion in Wentworth, a private community in Surrey, England, after the U.S. Open later next month.
The U.S. Open — which begins June 12 at Oakmont Country Club in Oakmont, Pennsylvania — marks McIlroy’s return to the major stage after winning the 2025 Masters Tournament at Augusta Country Club in April, completing the career grand slam.
“Straight after Augusta we traveled over to see the house as it was going through the finishing touches,” McIlroy told The Telegraph last week at the 2025 Truist Championship in Philadelphia. “It was fun to see and we could have stayed in it, but we wanted to get over to Holywood [McIlroy’s hometown in Belfast, Ireland].”
McIlroy and Stoll still plan on keeping their home in Florida, but the new digs in England will be the family’s “base,” per the outlet.
The move to the UK comes roughly a year after McIlroy filed for divorce from Stoll in May 2024 after seven years of marriage. McIlroy announced he had called off the divorce the following month.
Stoll has supported the move overseas for a while, as evidenced by a revelation made by golfer Martin Kaymer on Netflix’s Full Swing earlier this year.
“I saw her [Stoll] at a Starbucks once, and she said, ‘I really don’t like the sun,’” Kaymer, 40, recalled. “I said, ‘Your state’s called the Sunshine State, right?’”
His wife’s desire for a change was acknowledged by McIlroy on Full Swing, saying, “If it was up to her, she wouldn’t move to England straightaway, but she definitely wants to spend more time there.”
McIlroy traveled to Europe with Stoll and Poppy on April 18, five days after his Masters win. The golfer was able to celebrate his historic achievement with his parents, Rosie and Gerry, who were not able to attend the Masters in person.
Though he joked his mom was a “mess for a few minutes” upon arrival, McIlroy sentimentally recalled how special it was to see his parents back home.
“Look, as an only child, I have a bond,” McIlroy told reporters at the Truist Championship. “I’m lucky, and I know a lot of people feel this, that they have a close bond with their parents, but I think as time goes on and I’m getting a little older, I realize that they’re not going to be around forever. It means even more that they were still around to be able to see me complete the slam and fulfill those dreams.”
