A teenage motorcyclist is in serious condition in hospital after he was airlifted from the scene of a two vehicle collision in Co Longford yesterday evening.
The 19-year-old sustained serious injuries when his motorcycle collided with an SUV just outside Kenagh, Co Longford at around 7pm.
Gardaí and emergency services attended the scene and before a decision was taken to call in the services of air ambulance personnel.
He was later flown to Dublin’s Mater Hospital for treatment to what have been described as “serious” injuries.
Gardaí closed off the road entering the south Longford village for a number of hours last night to allow for a forensic collision investigation to be carried out.
Those examinations have since concluded and the road has reopened as gardaí now attempt to piece together the circumstances behind last night’s incident.
Gardaí are asking to speak to any witnesses and motorists who may dash-cam footage of the incident.
“Gardaí and emergency services responded to a collision involving an SUV and a motorcycle on the R397 at Mosstown, Kenagh, Co Longford, shortly after 7pm on Friday, 9th May 2025,” said a garda spokesperson.
“The motorcyclist, a 19-year-old male, was airlifted from the scene to the Mater Hospital, where his injuries are reported to be serious.
“Gardaí are appealing for witnesses to come forward. Road users who may have camera footage, including dash-cam recordings and were in the area at the time are asked to provide it to the investigating gardaí.”
Anyone with information is urged to contact Longford Garda Station on 043 3350570, the Garda Confidential Line at 1800 666 111, or any Garda station.
