Church leaders in Ireland have expressed their “great joy” at the election of Pope Leo XIV, with the Primate of All Ireland describing him as “a friend of Ireland”.
As personal anecdotes about the new pontiff surfaced, Archbishop Eamon Martin revealed that he met the new pope at the end of February along with Archbishops Dermot Farrell, Kieran O’Reilly and Francis Duffy.
