It seems like aeons ago now, but it was actually only a decade past that RTÉ’s waving of the chequebook to sign big stars was coming up on the floor of the Dáil.
Then taoiseach Enda Kenny was asked about indications that “a DJ returning to RTÉ is going to be paid €500,000 per year”. The poaching of Ray D’Arcy from Today FM prompted calls for a salary cap in Montrose.
