Despite frequently playing coy about their relationship status, Love Is Blind season 8 stars Sara Carton and Joey Leveille actually do have an update to share.
“To keep it short and concise right now, a lot of people think of dating in different terms, so to keep it clear, dating officially — like boyfriend-girlfriend — we’re not,” Sara, 29, said on the Thursday, May 8, episode of the “Dear Shandy” podcast. “[We are] dating in the sense of exploring our relationship and getting to know one another.”
Sara also agreed with podcast cohost Sharleen Joynt that she and Joey, 36, could define their status as casually dating.
“Well, I wouldn’t say casually,” Joey chimed in during the joint interview. “We’re exploring and with the future of maybe being boyfriend-girlfriend.”
Sara and Joey met in the Love Is Blind pods during season 8, though they each got engaged sight unseen to other people. Their engagements to Ben Mezzenga and Monica Danus, respectively, both ended at the altar before rumors swirled post-finale that Sara and Joey started dating themselves.
While Sara and Joey both shut down any thoughts of dating at the time — and denying Monica’s claims of overlap — they now admit that there’s something special about their bond.
“He’s been huge with support these past couple of months,” Sara added of Joey. “I very much trust and am confident in the relationship that I have with Joey. I feel like we could have a very happy, successful relationship.”
According to Sara, she is finally looking forward to pursuing a potential romance with a “sense of normalcy” now that Love Is Blind wrapped and the hype has slowly faded.
“We can get [back] to our daily life and our routines, and it’s nice to incorporate Joey into that,” Sara said. “But, like, we haven’t even had our first date because Minnesota’s small [and] the pressure. We want to protect this [and] what it could possibly be for the future. I don’t want to be impulsive and jump into it.”
While Joey and Sara have not had a first date and are not an official couple yet, that doesn’t mean they are seeing multiple other people.
“I guess it was, like, a month ago, I brought up, ‘Dating. What does that look like for us?’ And he’s like, ‘I thought we were dating,’” Sara recalled. “I’m, like, ‘We haven’t had the discussion if we’re boyfriend-girlfriend.’ So, we did have the discussion, and I’m not interested in anyone else. I do feel very confident.”
She continued, “It’s such a complex, unique situation [and] I just want to protect us for the most part of everything.”
Joey and Sara were then asked to “rank” their relationship on a scale of 1 to 10 — from a casual hookup to a married couple — to varied results. Joey decided on 7.5, while Sara went with a solid 8.
