Kyle Richards announced that one of her beloved dogs, a German Shepherd named River, has died.
“Yesterday, we said goodbye to River. The most loyal dog I have ever known,” the Real Housewives of Beverly Hills alum, 56, wrote via Instagram on Saturday, May 10. “River was a foster fail that was so grateful for being rescued and never left my side. She would wait in the window until I got home every day. Sit on the bath mat while I showered. Slept in my room, making sure I was always in sight.”
She added, “We all spent the day outside with her and her siblings. We made a circle around her, and as difficult as it was to move her back legs, she went up to each of us to nuzzle. She was surrounded by so much love and went peacefully.”
According to Richards, River was 15 years old.
“I’m grateful she’s at peace and no longer suffering, but her absence will no doubt be painful,” the Bravo star continued. “We love you, River 💔.”
Richards also shared a handful of photos featuring the late pup, including one where a toddler-aged Portia can be seen giving River a big cuddle.
Richards shares daughters Alexia, 28, Sophia, 25, and Portia, 17, with estranged husband Mauricio Umansky. (Richards is also mom to daughter Farrah, 36, from a previous relationship.)
Us Weekly confirmed in July 2023 that Richards and Umansky, 54, had separated. Nearly two years later, they have yet to formally file for divorce.

“I knew the day was coming, but when it happens, it’s like, ‘Oh, my God, this is real,’” Richards recalled of Umansky moving out in her Us Weekly cover story in October 2024. “I was so emotional after he and Alexia both moved out. When you’re a married mom of four, the house is chaotic. So it felt so different. Thank God I still have two daughters at home.”
Richard further noted that both Portia and Sophia are “out a lot,” leaving her alone with her six pet dogs.
“Am I a crazy dog lady? Maybe,” she joked. “It’s like having six husbands. It’s a lot of work! But they make me laugh and make me feel safe. They sleep in my room. One sprawls across [me], and I end up sleeping in a split because I want to accommodate her.”
Elsewhere in her Reality Stars of the Year feature, Richards admitted that she didn’t think of herself as single.
“I don’t know what the future holds right now with Mauricio and me. We love each other. So, that part is easy,” Richards said. “What’s not easy is figuring out what’s next. We’re not divorced; he doesn’t live here, but we’re still figuring things out. On the show, people felt they were owed answers and thought I was withholding stuff — but I’m figuring it out myself.”
