Canada was back in the headlines this week as prime minister Mark Carney became the latest victim of Trumpian hospitality in the White House. The consensus was the new premier acquitted himself well, insisting his country was not for sale “now or ever”.
Carney has made much of his Irish roots in the past – three of his four grandparents were Irish, from Aghagower in Co Mayo. But Ireland’s links with Canada have been long and deep.
