New figures reveal sharp rise in elder abuse
There has been an alarming rise in reports of elder abuse, with complaints doubling since the start of the Covid-19 pandemic to more than 7,500 in a year.
The Government is being urged to widen laws on coercive control to include adults looking after their parents or older relatives, after the figures show that psychological abuse is the most common form of abuse against those aged over 65.
