The trailer for Oliver Laxe‘s “Sirât” has debuted ahead of the film’s world premiere in the competition section of the Cannes Film Festival. The Match Factory is handling world sales.
The film follows a father and his son as they arrive at a rave deep in the mountains of southern Morocco. They’re searching for Mar — daughter and sister — who vanished months ago at one of these endless, sleepless parties. Surrounded by electronic music and a raw, unfamiliar sense of freedom, they hand out her photo again and again. Hope is fading but they push through and follow a group of ravers heading to one last party in the desert. As they venture deeper into the burning wilderness, the journey forces them to confront their own limits.
The cast includes Sergi López, Bruno Nuñez, Stefania Gadda, Joshua Liam Henderson, Tonin Janvier, Jade Oukid and Richard Bellamy. The screenwriters are Santiago Fillol and Laxe. The cinematography is Mauro Herce.
The film is a Movistar Plus+ original produced in collaboration with Filmes da Ermida, El Deseo, Uri Films and 4A4 Productions. The distributor in Spain is Bteam Pictures. The French distributor is Pyramide Films. A-One Films is releasing the film in the Baltic states and MCF is the distributor for the Balkans.
The producers are Domingo Corral, Laxe, Xavi Font, Pedro Almodóvar, Agustín Almodóvar, Esther García, Oriol Maymó, Mani Mortazavi and Andrea Queralt. The film was made with the support of Arte Germany.
Laxe’s credits include 2019’s “Fire Will Come,” which won the Un Certain Regard Jury Prize in Cannes; 2016’s “Mimosas,” which won the Critics’ Week Grand Prize in Cannes; and 2010’s “You All Are Captains,” which was in Directors’ Fortnight in Cannes and won the FIPRESCI Prize.
