Former Vice President of the United States Kamala Harris attended the 2025 Met Gala, wearing a custom Off-White dress to embrace the event’s theme, “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style.” The color-blocked dress, made of black and cream cady silk, featured an asymmetric neckline and bodice, with one side featuring a high collar and full sleeves, while the other side was sleeveless. The dress also included a draped silhouette and a slight train at the hem.

“The precise simplicity of this black and cream look for Kamala D. Harris complements her own strength and confidence, two qualities I consider to be the core of dandyism,” IB Kamara, creative director of Off-White, told via statement.
This was Harris’ first time at the Met Gala. She skipped the red carpet and entered the event discreetly, accompanied by her husband, Doug Emhoff, who wore a Brunello Cucinelli look.

During her political career, Harris was often seen in her signature pantsuit campaign style, but she’s also worn her fair share of dresses and gowns through the years. She has favored designs by Christopher John Rogers, LaQuan Smith, Ralph Lauren, J. Mendel and Monique Lhuillier.

The theme “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style” is “an unexpected lesson in history,” Costume Institute’s curator Monica L. Miller said, while previewing the upcoming exhibition at the Met on Monday. Spanning about 250 years, “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style” examines menswear through the lens of Black culture and identity, incorporating contemporary street trends and the influence of hip-hop, while also acknowledging significant historical periods such as the Harlem Renaissance and the civil rights movement.
