A motorcyclist travelling 122kmh in a 60kmh zone was among countless drivers caught speeding over the bank holiday weekend

A total of 19 drivers have been arrested in Co Kildare over the May bank holiday weekend for driving while under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs.
Members of the Kildare Roads Policing Unit were out on patrol across the county as part of the May bank holiday road safety campaign.
During a checkpoint in Kilcock, the Naas Roads Policing Unit spotted a Renault Megane who attempted to avoid the checkpoint.

Gardaí managed to stop the driver and discovered they had a fake driving licence, no insurance or tax. The driver also tested positive for cannabis and was subsequently arrested for intoxicated driving and is due to appear in court charged with multiple offences.
As well as 19 drivers arrested for intoxicated driving, 29 vehicles were seized for offences such as no insurance and no tax, while a number of disqualified drivers and unaccompanied learner drivers were caught by Gardaí behind the wheel.
Countless motorists were also caught speeding across the weekend. During another checkpoint, the Naas Roads Policing Unit caught a motorcyclist on the L1009 at Donadea speeding at 122kmh in a 60kmh zone.
Gardaí soon discovered that the motorcyclist was a learner driver with no insurance. Their tax also expired a staggering nine years ago. The motorcyclist was arrested and is due in court at a later date.
Meanwhile, in a 50kmh zone in the county, drivers were detected travelling at 90kmh, 89kmh and 83km, while in a 60kmh zone in Co Kildare, one motorists was caught speeding 100kmh.
