Bebe Rexha revealed she suffered a pregnancy loss while addressing negative negative comments about her weight following her first Met Gala appearance.
“I’m so tired of people commenting on my weight,” Rexha, 35, wrote in a since-deleted tweet on Tuesday, May 6, via E! News.
The Grammy nominee explained, “I have PCOS and struggle with infertility,” referring to her journey with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), a hormonal condition that affects women’s ovaries and often leads to weight fluctuation.
Rexha then revealed, “I got pregnant, and it didn’t work out and I’ve been carrying that pain in silence.” The post was the first time Rexha has discussed her pregnancy loss publicly.
The musician noted that although she didn’t owe anyone an explanation or the story behind her appearance, she hoped her story would make trolls “think twice” before commenting on “anyone’s body.”
Rexha’s comments came one day after she made her Met Gala debut on Monday, May 5, in New York City. The “In the Name of Love” singer posted several photos of her Christian Siriano look on social media, which highlighted her curves and sexy figure.
While Rexha’s clap back — and pregnancy loss news — has since been deleted from X, she also replied to Azealia Banks directly on the platform after she made negative remarks about her shape.

“Sis gives me — hormonal birth control implant or something,” Banks, 33, wrote via X on Monday, posting a photo of Rexha on the Met Gala red carpet and implying that the singer had gained weight as a result of a medication. “It’s giving implanon/nuvaring she needs removed or depo shot that needs to stop happening (I’m not even tryna play her).”
Rexha fired back, “And you might wanna jump on some type of therapy, sis, lexapro worked great for me. Something that helps with the deep rooted sadness and chaos you keep projecting. Healing looks good on everyone. Try it.”
Despite engaging in a brief social media feud with Banks, Rexha seemed to bounce back and ignore the haters almost instantly.
“OK I’m gonna go and enjoy my day now ♥️,” Rexha tweeted on Tuesday, minutes after her exchange with Banks. “Have a good day everyone love you.”
Rexha is no stranger to defending herself and her body against critics. In July 2023, Rexha shared screenshots of texts her then-boyfriend Keyan Safyari allegedly sent her in which he was critical of her weight.
“I always said I would be honest with you and your face was changing so I told you it was … that was the conversation we were having, and you asked,” the text read. “Because I care, would you rather I lied to you?”
Safyari then pointed out that Rexha had gained “35 pounds,” texting, “Obviously you gained weight and your face changes? Should I pretend it didn’t happen and that it’s OK? Come on I gain 3 pounds and you call me chubbs and fat. Doesn’t mean you don’t love me. If you’re trying to find reasons to break up this makes sense … but it’s not the real reason.”
Safyari claimed that Rexha was trying to “weaponize your anger or anxiety or any insecurity you may have” to find an excuse to break up.
“You know I have always found you to be beautiful and loved you no matter what,” he continued, encouraging Rexha to “write things down” and “speak to a therapist” so that she could “get to the root of the problem.”
Later that month, Rexha confirmed during one of her performances in London that she and Safyari called it quits after three years of dating. “Now, I just went through a breakup, so I might get a little emotional, so you need to help me here,” she told the crowd as she introduced her song “Atmosphere,” per E! News.
Earlier in 2023, Rexha shared that she was recently diagnosed with PCOS and it had impacted her body image. “I literally jumped, like, 30 pounds so quickly, maybe a little bit more,” she said of her diagnosis during a May 2023 appearance on The Jennifer Hudson Show. “But we gotta just be positive and just show people love.”
