David Doyle
One of Ireland’s best known business personalities, David Doyle, has died following a battle with motor neuron disease.
Mr Doyle, with an address on Shrewsbury Road in Ballsbridge, Dublin 4 died yesterday at his home in Spain while surrounded by his family.
He is survived by his wife Christina and children Ashley, who is married to former Leinster rugby player James Tracy, and Sophie.
Aged in his 60s, he was the son of the late hotelier PV Doyle.
David Doyle was previously appointed chief executive of the Doyle group.
The group included well-known Dublin hotels such as the Montrose and Berkeley Court which in its time was once the most up-market hotels in Ireland.
However, by the 1990s, Doyle was ousted as managing director after a long period of sibling warfare. He resigned as director in 1994.
A settlement was agreed after the family split over control of the hotel group.
Bernie Doyle and her sisters, Anne Roche and Eileen Monahan, took control of the chain, paying off their brother David to end his involvement in the family business in a family feud that was said to have created a thousand headlines.
