Seán Cloney warned senior churchman about paedophile priest Seán Fortune, but the sexual abuse of children carried on

In the summer of 1984, Seán Cloney told my father and his brother not to send their children – my cousins and myself – to the local Catholic church at Poulfur. Far better, said Seán, to travel a few miles more down the road to the parish church in Templetown.
Given that no one in the family was a mass-goer, the question of where we would attend mass was academic. Nevertheless, my father and my uncle were intrigued by Seán’s earnest injunction. It was only when they came to know Seán better that they realised its significance.
