John Elway may be one of the best NFL quarterbacks of all time, but he is also proud of his role as a husband and a father.
“Well, I’m blessed with four beautiful kids. I think the best advice that I have tried to give to them is something that was passed down to me from my mother [Janet Elway] and my father [Jack Elway],” John shared in The Life of Dad by Jon Finkel and Art Eddy in 2019. “It is to treat others the way you want to be treated. I think if you go through life with that mindset, you will have a lot of good things happen to you. … My kids are hard workers, and I am very proud of them. They do have that positive mindset that good things will happen to them.”
John married Janet Buchan in 1984. They went on to welcome four children: Jessica, Jordan, Jack and Juliana. John and Buchan later split in 2002.
Following John’s divorce from Buchan, he met Paige Green at a celebrity golf tournament in 2005. The couple got engaged in 2008 and tied the knot one year later.

Janet Elway
John’s mom, Janet, married his father Jack in 1958. She welcomed three kids: Lee Ann and twins John and Jana. Janet supported Jack throughout his football coaching career before he passed away in 2001 at the age of 69. After his passing, Janet lived in Palm Desert, California, and met partner Richard Terrell.
In March 2020, Janet died of pancreatic cancer. She was 82.
Jack Elway
John’s father, Jack, was a head college football coach at California State University, Northridge, San Jose State University and Stanford University throughout his career. He compiled a college football record of 80-60-4. In 1993, Jack joined the Denver Broncos’ scouting department as Director of Pro Scouting. He stayed until 1999 before moving to Palm Desert with his wife, Janet.
In April 2001, Jack died at the age of 69 from a heart attack.

Jana Elway
John and his twin sister, Jana, were born on June 28, 1960. They both attended Stanford University where she played tennis. Jana went on to become a tennis teacher and a school teacher. Jana married Al Sever in 1984 and the couple welcomed son Joe and daughter Dana.
In July 2002, Jana died from lung cancer, despite never smoking, at the age of 42.
“I think with Jana, it was something,” John shared in a 2005 interview following Jana’s death. “It had an effect, because she was probably my closest friend, she was my twin sister. To lose somebody that close to you, you don’t know the impact until you lose them.”
Lee Ann Elway
Lee Ann was the older sister of John and Jana. Throughout her life, she had several different careers including working in computer technology, opening her own floral business and becoming a registered nurse. Lee Ann married Tony McCarthy in 1991 and welcomed daughter Kylee and son Patrick.
In April 2025, Lee Ann died after battling pancreatic cancer at the age of 66.

Janet Buchan
John married Buchan, a swimmer at Stanford, in 1984 and they went on to welcome four kids: Jessica, Jordan, Jack and Juliana. The twosome separated in 2002.
Jessica Elway
Janet and John’s oldest child, Jessica, went on to attend their alma mater Stanford, where she played women’s basketball. She began her career as a teacher, but is now the Director at Capital Family Medical Associates. Jessica married Jimmy Delgadillo in 2015.
Jordan Elway
Jordan is the second child of Janet and John. While not much is known about her life, John mentioned on social media in November 2019 that Jordan has a husband, Austin, and daughter Addie.
Jack Elway
Jack is John and Janet’s only son. While he followed in his father’s footsteps by playing football at Arizona State University, he opted out of a professional career.. He went on to start an online clothing company called Mint Tradition.
Juliana Elway
John’s youngest daughter, Juliana, married Kent Cohen in 2019 and is the mom of Huxley, Karleigh and Amelia. She is a teacher and the owner of Link.Weld.Love, a permanent jewelry business.
