The reactions to Bill Belichick and girlfriend Jordon Hudson’s controversial CBS Sunday Morning interview continue to come — with the coach’s own daughter-in-law now weighing in.
Jennifer Schmitt, who is married to the North Carolina football coach’s son Stephen, took a swipe at Hudson, 24, implying she did not act professionally. Her take came in a reply to comedian Nikki Glaser via Instagram on Wednesday, April 30, after Glaser, 40, responded to a video posted by two of Bill’s former players: ex New England Patriots Julian Edelman and Rob Gronkowski, who defended Bill, 73, and Hudson. They argued that Hudson acted similarly to how Belichick’s publicists have in the past.
“100% this. She’s acting as his publicist,” Glaser wrote in the comments section. “Publicists do this during interviews. People are out for blood.”
Schmitt fired back with her own reply, writing, “Publicists act in a professional manner and don’t ‘storm’ off set delaying an interview.”
Schimtt’s comment is the latest in the continuing fallout from the Sunday, April 27 interview, in which journalist Tony Dokoupil asked the eight-time Super Bowl champion about how he met Hudson, who is 49 years his junior.
Hudson interrupted the interview, saying, “Not talking about this.”
Belichick subsequently released a statement on Wednesday where he explained that the purpose of the interview was to focus solely on his upcoming book, The Art of Winning: Lessons from My Life in Football.

“Prior to this interview, I clearly communicated with my publicist at Simon & Schuster that any promotional interviews I participated in would agree to focus solely on the contents of the book,” he wrote.
“Unfortunately, that expectation was not honored during the interview,” he continued. “I was surprised when unrelated topics were introduced, and I repeatedly expressed to the reporter, Tony Dokoupil, and the producers that I preferred to keep the conversation centered on the book. After this occurred several times, Jordon, with whom I share both a personal and professional relationship, stepped in to reiterate that point to help refocus the discussion. She was not deflecting any specific question or topic but simply doing her job to ensure the interview stayed on track.”
A CBS News spokesperson later responded with a statement refuting Belichick’s account of the leadup to the interview.
“When we agreed to speak to Mr. Belichick, it was for a wide-ranging interview,” the statement read. “There were no preconditions or limitations to this conversation. This was confirmed repeatedly with his publisher before the interview took place and after it was completed.”
