Richard Gere and his wife, Alejandra Silva, are enjoying their shared life in Spain — but are going to return to the United States one day.
“For a few years [we’ll live in Spain], and then come back,” Silva, 42, told The Daily Mail at the recent City Harvest Presents the 2025 Gala: Carnaval. “But we’re always coming back. We’ll come back here in the summer because we have the kids at camp. We just have to balance our lives there and here.”
Silva and Gere, 75 — who share sons Alexander, 6, and James, 5 — noted that she’s with her family in Spain. (Gere is also dad to 25-year-old son Homer, whom he shares with ex-wife Carey Lowell. Silva, for her part, shares 12-year-old son Albert with ex-husband Govind Friedland.)
“I missed them a lot,” Silva told the outlet of her family overseas. “But I miss the U.S. So we come back and forth.”

While reflecting on the move, Gere gushed that Silva is “so happy” in Spain. “Her family is there, her culture is there, [our] youngest kids are growing up there, their Spanish is perfect,” he told Page Six at the City Harvest Annual Gala in New York City earlier this month.
When asked if his motto is “happy wife, happy life,” Gere let out a laugh. “Yeah, I wanted you to say that, not me!” he quipped.
Gere and Silva, who tied the knot in April 2018, left the U.S. for Spain after six years of marriage. The move came after the pair struck up a deal earlier in their romance.
“My wife is Spanish, and she gave me about seven years here, so we’re going to spend some years in Madrid with her family,” he explained during a November 2024 appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. “Our kids are bilingual, so they’re going to flourish there.”
Earlier this year, Gere gave fans a glimpse of his and Silva’s routine in Spain. “The children did not want me to leave this morning,” Gere told Elle España in a January interview with Silva. “They asked me about their mother and I told them that she was in a meeting. ‘And where are you going, Dad?’ To a meeting too.”
Silva, for her part, gushed that Gere is a “very devoted and present father,” adding, ”He loves to read them stories. It seems like an idyllic photo, but it’s true. He’s a great dad.”
