Bill Belichick is coming to girlfriend Jordon Hudson’s defense after she interrupted his recent interview with CBS Sunday Morning.
“I agreed to speak with CBS Sunday Morning to promote my new book, The Art of Winning – Lessons from My Life in Football,” the head football coach, 73, said in a statement released by the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill on Wednesday, April 30. “Prior to this interview, I clearly communicated with my publicist at Simon & Schuster that any promotional interviews I participated in would agree to focus solely on the contents of the book.”
He continued: “Unfortunately, that expectation was not honored during the interview. I was surprised when unrelated topics were introduced, and I repeatedly expressed to the reporter, Tony Dokoupil, and the producers that I preferred to keep the conversation centered on the book.”
Belichick claimed that the interview went off-topic “several times,” so Hudson, 24, “stepped in” in order to “help refocus the discussion.” He also added that he and Hudson “share a personal and professional relationship.”
“She was not deflecting any specific question or topic but simply doing her job to ensure the interview stayed on track,” he said. “Some of the clips make it appear as though we were avoiding the question of how we met, but we have been open about the fact that Jordon and I met on a flight to Palm Beach in 2021.”
Belichick insisted that “the final eight-minute segment does not reflect the productive 35-minute conversation” he had during the interview. The former New England Patriots coach claimed that they discussed “a wide range of topics” about his career, which was not shown in the final cut.
“Instead, it presents selectively edited clips and stills from just a few minutes of the interview to suggest a false narrative — that Jordon was attempting to control the conversation — which is simply not true,” he concluded.
Belichick and Hudson made headlines earlier this week after the interview aired on the news program on Sunday, April 27. During the sit-down, Belichick was asked about his and Hudson’s 49-year age gap, which he brushed off.
“Never been too worried about what anybody else thinks,” Belichick said. “Just try to do what I feel like is best for me and what’s right.”
Dokoupil, who conducted the interview, then asked how Belichick and Hudson connected, which the former cheerleader shut down immediately.
“Not talking about this,” Hudson interjected.
In a voiceover, Dokoupil later revealed that the topic is something “neither one of them is comfortable commenting on” while also noting that Hudson was a “constant presence during our interview.”
Hudson later took to social media to clap back at the criticism she received for the awkward interview moment. reposted a series of tweets coming to her defense via her Instagram Story.
“I see a woman who cares about her man and doesn’t want him to be screwed around by the media,” one of the messages read.
Days later, Hudson also shared an email Belichick allegedly sent raising his concerns before agreeing to do the interview.
“These appearances will, no doubt, want to focus on whatever negatives they can extract from the book, and all the current events that don’t have anything to do with the book, but are most relevant to their ‘ratings’ and their agenda (which is not mine),” the email read, which Hudson posted via Instagram on Tuesday, April 29.
