It looks like things are over between JoJo Siwa and Kath Ebbs.
On Saturday, April 26, the DJ shared a video via Instagram and explained what they say went wrong between the pair. The content creator admitted they were “in a state of shock” and “honestly feel[ing] so numbed out right now and so disoriented” while addressing the camera. (Ebbs identifies as nonbinary and uses they/them, she/her/hers pronouns.)
Ebbs also said they spent two weeks “sitting back, watching certain things unfold” —seemingly referring to Siwa’s time on Celebrity Big Brother: UK — and that it’s been tough “not being able to get any clarity from the person” for whom they were romantically involved.
“I haven’t processed enough to, if you’d want to call it love bombing or whatever, but it seems to me I have experienced a version of that,” they went on. “Being told that I’m the love of someone’s life, being asked to marry them before The Social Experiment, being adored throughout behind closed doors, being hurt by what I saw but wanting to work through it … to be met with, I guess, further humiliated in a weird way.”
Ebbs claimed they flew to “the live show to show up for my partner and support them in their experience, and then obviously later on address my feelings” but revealed that they were “dumped” at the show’s party.
At the heart of the situation, apparently, is Siwa’s relationship and multiple interactions with her Celebrity Big Brother housemate Chris Hughes. The pair were playfully touchy with one another onscreen, which appears to be what Ebbs wanted clarity about.
At the party, “I was told there are confused feelings there … that they realized in the house that I wasn’t the person they wanted to spend the foreseeable [future with],” Ebbs concluded.
Siwa’s sexuality was a subject of Celebrity Big Brother this year. In one episode, former contestant Mickey Rourke claimed that Siwa “won’t be gay anymore” if she lasts more than four days on the show — a comment that many viewers and contestants denounced as homophobic.
“I can guarantee I’ll still be gay,” Siwa replied. “And I’ll still be in a very happy relationship.” Rourke was ultimately kicked out of the house for his behavior, which producers described as “unacceptable.”
But Siwa and Hughes, however, appeared to hit it off. The pair were filmed cuddling throughout several episodes and wrote secret messages to one another.
“Essentially, you have female and you have male. I’ve met a lot of females, love them, [but] don’t feel like I’m them,” Siwa told Hughes in a confessional earlier this month. “Met a lot of males, love them [but] definitely not one. Met a lot of people in my life who are non-binary, and these beautiful non-binary people are who I feel the most like. It’s not something that I want to say about myself yet, but it’s something that is confusing.”
Siwa also revealed she no longer identifies as a lesbian. “I’ve always told myself I’m a lesbian, but I think you — I think being here, I’ve realized, ‘Oh no, I’m not a lesbian, I’m queer,’” Siwa told housemate Danny Beard, who previously appeared on RuPaul’s Drag Race UK. “I think that’s really cool. I’m switching letters.”
