The timing of Marc Canham’s exit caught the Irish football community by surprise. But it would be a stretch to say the bottom-line news is a shock.
While meetings in recent days gave no impression a change was imminent, there’s a reason that Canham faced questions about the future at a media briefing last month, with speculation around the amount of time he is spending in Ireland and rumours around applications for alternative roles fuelling the view that the 42-year-old was working on an exit strategy.
