David Bowie’s daughter has your attention; now she wants you to listen.
Lexi Jones, the daughter of one of the most influential musicians of the 20th century and his wife Iman, released her debut album, Xandri this week along with a heartfelt message with her 220,000 followers on Instagram.
Expressing the emotional struggle with being compared to her father and his legacy the singer-songwriter, 24, put pen to paper and admitted: ‘I’m the daughter of a legend, but I’m more than just his name.’
She continued to say some people ‘laugh at how I move’ and yet, at the same time, ‘want me to carry on a legacy’.
Going more in-depth about the complicated emotions, Lexi expressed that the pressures on her and her father, being who he was, can leave her feeling ‘confused’ and doubtful.
‘Never thought I was good at much, never thought it was worth it to pursue.’

In the page-long poem, Lexi also shared that she isn’t trying to be her dad but rather pave her own way as a musician.
‘They see the blood, they hear the sound, yet fail to see me, don’t feel the same,’ she wrote. ‘They compare me to his heights, like I’m supposed to reach his light. But I’m not here to chase what’s already been done. By loving what I do, I feel I’ve already won.’
Signing off her poem by telling fans she is ‘not a copy’ and definitely ‘not a shadow’, Lexi declared: ‘I’m not trying to fill his shoes. I’m just trying to find my own peace.’
The poem struck a chord with many fans, who quickly took to the comment section to share their support.

While @davidbowienews added: ‘Keep being you, Lexi. Your music is great. It’s original.’

@wildenfree added: ‘You are standing on the shoulders of giants. May they always guide you.’
But it wasn’t just fans who Lexi moved, hidden in the comments were a few from children of famous musicians also trying to pave their own path.
Violet Grohl, 18, the eldest daughter of Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl, also shared her support for the musician, commenting: ‘Beautiful.’
While Lucas Jagger, 25, the son of Rolling Stones frontman Mick Jagger and Brazilian lingerie model Luciana Gimenez Morad, commented: ‘Amazing.’
Rising star Toni Cornell, 20, daughter of philanthropist Vicky Cornell and the late Chris Cornell, who was the lead vocalist for Soundgarden and Audioslave, also commented, sharing a simple red love heart emoji.
Lexi’s debut album, Xandri, is a 12-track record that has since hit streaming platforms and features songs such as Cracks of Me, Along the Road, and Let Me Go.

While the musician wants to forge her own path, she has previously spoken about her father and the impact his death had on her as she grew up.
She was just 15 when her dad died in January 2016 at age 69 after privately battling pancreatic and liver cancer.
In an online blog published last year, she said: ‘I confused living life with surviving life’s days by filling my body’s bottomless void, drowning myself in toxins and poison,’ she recalls.
‘I involved myself in things I never expected to be part of. Situating myself in situations that contributed to the already crumbling foundation of my family eventually led to lonely isolation.
‘I’ve hurt the ones I loved most with hateful words to make them feel at least a little bit of the pain I went through every day.
‘It felt easier to label myself as a psychopath rather than to have admitted to the lack of introspection in an effort to justify my harmful actions.
‘Growing to be such a violent and angry individual was unbelievably contradictory to the sweet and gentle little girl I used to be.’
