With a few hours to go before the red carpet at the WNBA draft night, LSU forward Aneesah Morrow was fighting off nerves.
“I’ve been stressing a little bit,” she admitted. “I’ve just been trying to stay present, enjoy this moment because it’s definitely surreal.”
Morrow had her hands in a gel nail dryer, eye patches under each eye and a hairstylist tending to her hair. For her big night, she partnered with Coach on a custom black leather strapless dress and leather blouson jacket, the Black Chain Tabby bag with gold hardware, and pointy toe pumps in black nappa leather.
Going into the night, Morrow knew she wanted “a lot of leather.”

“I wanted to be bold. I wanted to make a statement, but also be classy,” she said.
Her nails were a central part of the look.
“I wanted to change my nails to match the aesthetic [of the dress] but also do gold,” she said, as her nail technician painted her free hand. “I’m trying to give myself this feeling of royalty. When it came to my look, the first thing I was talking about was elegant, but I wanted to be fierce. I want to go classy, but I feel like a lot of the times that I dress, it’s not grown, so I wanted to get more of a grown feeling.”
Style wise, she’s a fan of Kelsey Plum and Aliyah Boston from the WNBA, as well as Beyonce and Megan Thee Stallion.

Following the draft, Morrow hoped to get to her new home city as soon as possible.
“I feel like I would be able to get a little bit more of an advantage that way,” she said. “To get accustomed to that environment and the facility as well.”
In the meantime, she was trying to keep as present as possible.
“Hearing my name called, seeing so at it, enjoying it and staying present in the moment. Being able to have the opportunity of a lifetime and take advantage of it. Telling myself I deserve to be here and just have that approach,” Morrow said. “Everybody does not get this opportunity. I think it’s like 1 percent of people get to play pro, so I want to take advantage of that. Never take it for granted and enjoy it.”
